My name is Sims Vincent. I'm based in Portland, Oregon, and am currently a 4th year student at Portland State University studying fine art and business.
While ink illustration is my most practiced art form, I am also passionate about storytelling and writing. I have been in love with reading and making comics since I was a kid. I've since then harbored a deep understanding of comic creation and story boarding techniques. I have used this knowledge to successfully create several comic and illustration projects within the last three years. My central and most long-term project is an absurd fantasy series titled "Hellion." Samples of which, and many more of my completed projects, can be seen in the portfolio section of this website.
My personal style is heavily focused on expression and storytelling through graphic illustration. I mostly work in black and white as I use very angular, line-focused forms to render my scenes. My artistic influences range from the old school masters of line like Otto Dix or Albrecht Dürer, but I am also heavily influenced by contemporary illustrators and comic artists like Will Eisner, Bernie Wrightson, and Eiichiro Oda. I love to create illustrations that allow the eye to move around and explore the many details of a scene, and I use this to my advantage in order to subtly reveal a narrative within the subject matter. I also love to portray elements of humor in my work, whether it be outright slapstick or subtle irony.
Personally, I believe that people have the ability to sense and appreciate art that is imbued with genuine passion, love, and purpose. Whether it be found within the careful craft or deeper meaning of a piece. I try my hardest to capture this quality in everything I create, and I use it as a kind of artistic motto to keep me directed towards making art that is important to me.
Thank you for visiting my site, and I hope you enjoy my portfolio.
